Meet the Hurify Team : Leo Salemann

August 19, 2018

1. Where are you from?
I’m born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, in a small town called Sammamish near Seattle, Washington. I grew up in an semi rural neighborhood where girls road horses and boys rode dirt bikes. Now we have far more housing, shops, and a wonderfully diverse community. Being a “native” here makes me a bit unique!

2. What do you do at Hurify?
I’m the Product Manager, helping to make our platform the best it can be. I take the priorities expressed by our leadership team, and translate them into actionable work items for our design and development teams. I keep the work organized, prioritized, and visible. I believe in servant leadership, so much of my work involves helping everyone else work better!

3. What’s your favorite thing about working here?
The view from the office and the food trucks that gather round at lunch. Oh, you mean the actual work part? It’s great being with a small close-knit team that trusts me. I appreciate being able to communicate openly with everyone; where we can all bring ideas to the table, but be ready to let them go if a better idea comes along.

4. What music do you hope no one hears you listening to at work?
Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, or Deadmau5. You’re not going to publish this, are you?

5. What’s the coolest smart product you have seen?
My 2018 Forester handles stop and go traffic for me. I just set the cruise control for 25 MPH and she (I call her Ruby because of her color) adjusts her speed to maintain a safe following distance at all times. In the winter, I can set the cars desired interior, and Ruby will gradually increase the fan strength as warm air becomes available.

6. If you could create your own IoT product, what would it be?
I’ve been dreaming of a “meter reader”. Something with a camera that could be pointed to any gauge or numeric display, do optical character recognition, then stream the numeric value. A device like that could “IoT-ify” anything!

7. One piece of technology you can’t live without?
My iPhone SE. One of the last one-handed mobile devices out there.

8. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working? / Where do you feel most present?
Camping, Hiking, Skiing … or zoning out in front of late-night television.

9. What is something about you that would surprise us?
In college I sailed and practiced Aikido. Trying to find the time to get back to them both.

10. What is your favorite cartoon caricature?

11. Favorite quote?
Any Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic – Arthur C. Clarke
